Teresa holds an MSc in Human Ecology from Lund University (Sweden) and a PhD in Geography from Clark University (USA) with a focus on environmental and climate governance in the raw materials sector. As a postdoctoral fellow of trAndeS at the Free University of Berlin and the Pontificia Universidad Católica del Perú, she focused on the potential of remote sensing to monitor climate and environmental risks in the raw materials sector and the integration of those data into policy-making processes. Within the Sector Programme, she deals with environmental risks, especially in relation to mine closure and just transition as well as deforestation and biodiversity. Since April 2024, she has been the acting head of the sector project.

Dr. Alexandra Bechtum

Alexandra Bechtum holds a PhD in political science. Her research interests focus on the democratic and developmental impacts of industrial (gold) mining in Latin America. As part of the sector program, she works on topics related to due diligence in commodity supply chains and coordinates the network on responsible sourcing of gold.

Within the sector programme Maria covers the topic of climate impact and climate mitigation in the mining sector. Based on the varying distribution of energy consumption and GHG emissions involved in raw materials extraction she analyzes mitigation potentials in the mining industry. Furthermore, she examines the developmental dimension of climate policy instruments and initiatives. Maria holds a M.Sc. in Geographical Development Studies.

In the sector programme, Evelyn works on development aspects of construction raw materials and due diligence in silicon and solar supply chains with a focus on human rights and gender. Evelyn holds a M.A. in peace and conflict studies. For her dissertation she did research on labour and gender relations in the mining sector with a regional focus on Sub-Saharan Africa.
