10.07.2025 Webinar: The Future of Battery Standards – Regulatory Developments and Due Diligence Requirements in the EU and China
On 9 July 2025, the China Chamber of Commerce of Metals, Minerals & Chemicals Importers & Exporters (CCCMC) and GIZ (Sector Programme Extractives and Development, Sino-German Center for Sustainable Development) jointly hosted a well-attended webinar on the evolving regulatory landscape in the battery sector and its global implications.
The event brought together stakeholders from across the value chain to discuss how new legal frameworks – such as the EU Batteries Regulation (Regulation (EU) 2023/1542) and China’s upcoming national safety standards for EV batteries (GB38031-2025) – are reshaping due diligence obligations, market access conditions, and supply chain expectations.
We would like to sincerely thank all our speakers for their outstanding contributions. Opening remarks were delivered by Executive Deputy President LIU Danyang of CCCMC, followed by expert presentations from Ms. Kaisa Toroskainen, Programme Manager at the Global Battery Alliance, and Dr. Hao Weijian, Standardization Engineer at the China Automotive Technology and Research Center (CATARC).
The panel discussion featured valuable perspectives from Mr. Frank Li, Head of ESG Office at Tsingshan Holding Group, Mr. LIU Hao, Asia Pacific Sustainability Manager at BASF, Ms. Jasmine Puteri, Senior Advisor Supply-chain at Rainforest Foundation Norway, Ms. Kaisa Toroskainen, Ms. ZHU Wenjun, Director of CSR and Sustainability, Greater China Region at TÜV SÜD, and Mr. WANG Ning, Researcher in the Development Department at CCCMC.
Mr. Tim Schlösser, Head of Programme of the GIZ Sector Programme Extractives and Development provided an outlook to the discussion and stressed the importance of international collaboration to foster responsibility along global battery value chains.
We are pleased that the webinar provided a platform for constructive dialogue, knowledge sharing, and future-oriented discussions on responsible battery value chains. We look forward to continuing the conversation and working together towards a more sustainable future.
